Protecting Our Elections from Interference and Voter Suppression

ADAMS COUNTY - Letter from Beckie Bean, Chair of the Adams County Democratic Party

Hello Democrats and unaffiliated supporters!

You may have seen the news that the Trump Administration wants to send DOJ election monitors to Adams County. However, what's not been widely reported is that we expected something like this, and we have been planning to protect this election since before the primaries.  

Elections in Colorado are the gold standard! We will be monitoring to ensure that there is no voter intimidation or suppression in Adams County. We have recruited poll watchers in numbers that have not been seen in recent memory.  We will also have attorneys and former elected officials on call to investigate any reports of election interference or voter suppression. 

Other counties are pitching in too. Big thanks to Boulder County Democrats for sending dozens of additional poll watchers to Adams County.

You can help too! Here are three ways to protect this election:

1. Vote early! I know, I know the ballot is super long this year. Our 2026 Voter Guide can help! By voting early, you are letting your voice be heard and allowing election workers to focus on voters who need additional assistance on Election Day. 

2. If you see something, say something! When you drop off your ballot or vote in person, be aware of your surroundings. Adams County Elections has worked very hard to protect our election infrastructure and to train election workers. But if something seems off, report it to the Voter Assistance Hotline at 1-833-DEM-VOTE (1-833-336-8683).

3. Do not comply in advance! We have heard that we live in unprecedented times so frequently that it feels like it has lost all meaning. But the truth is, this has precedent -- just not in the United States of America. Take the lessons from others dealing with wannabe authoritarian governments and don't give into fear, apathy, or fatigue.

The current administration is counting on us to be so frustrated that we give up. Don't give up! And encourage your friends, family and neighbors to do the same. Together, we can stop this!
