Welcome to the Adams County Democratic Party, the party of success!

Adams County has a tradition of electing strong, principled Democratic officials and we want to continue working towards that goal.

Written by Marty Wisniewski, ACDP Chair

In the last eight years, the leaders of the Republican Party have rewritten the Constitution. The Supreme Court ruled that corporations have the right to free speech, and since they do not have a natural voice, they can use their money instead. With this outrageous ruling from the Supreme Court, we have been bought and paid for. I heard a suggestion that now we should require corporate patches on the congress and senate clothing, like NASCAR, to denote their sponsors. At least that would be honest. The ruling flies in the face of all the finance reform which has been sought by the American people.

What is also interesting is that the very people who form that corporation do not have a right to free speech in the workplace. Also interesting is that corporations can be multinational. Foreign dollars could flow into our political system. In any case, this is the most dangerous ruling we have seen from the Supreme Court. The very principle on which our country was founded is in jeopardy. "We the people" are not corporations with faceless CEOs with billions in their coffers. Not the wealthy and privileged, but all the people. It is not the time for Democrats to lay down their swords. But we need to spread the word with pen and mouth.

We fight the good fight.

As disheartening as this week has been, we need to remember several things. Change is not easy.  We have made several strides. Lily Ledbetter Act is now law. The stock market is up 40% since President Obama took office. We are scaling down the war in Iraq. Credit card reform is on the horizon.  We need to remind all that the Democrats were left with two wars, a recession, and a banking failure which the world has not seen since the Great Depression. We live in a world of fast food, fast gratification, and fast electronics. But with eight years of what brought us here, it will take time to correct. We need to fight harder than ever to make the changes we need. God may have made the world in six days, but He didn't have to deal with the Bush policies.
